Have you ever heard that the best ideas come to you while in the shower? A bathroom is a special place. It should be a sanctuary of some sort. Our bathroom is so small! (Like the rest of our 696 sqft. Bungalow.) I think if I had to guess our bathroom is about 64 sqft. Crazy right! Carter and I can’t wait to get in there and rip everything out to maximize the space with a remodel. We’ve been focusing on so many other parts of our home that our sad bathroom has been neglected, so today I wanted to talk a little bit about our phase one bathroom remodel plans and inspirations.
Current bathroom situation
The current bathroom situation is a little scary… I’ll paint you a picture. Seafoam green walls. A tiny mirror that when you open it there is a little slit to place old razors. I can’t believe the crazy things they used to do. Yes, hiding razors in the walls was one of them! Look it up. That awful green tile that used to be in our kitchen, is still on the bathroom floor. Previous owners sure loved that stuff. Last but not least, the shower. White and baby blue square tiles with a matching soap holder. I will post pictures of it when We start our phase one bathroom remodel.
Phase one Bathroom Remodel
Yes, phase one. Carter and I haven’t made final decisions on the bathroom design. So, since we are tired of the sad room it is now, we’ve decided to do a phase one bathroom remodel. Meaning, there will be a phase two. Possibly a phase three if we ever decide to add sqft onto our home, but that’s years away! Ideally within a year from our phase one plan, we like to have a phase 2 plan ready to go.
Why we do it in phases
We do this for a few reasons. One, budgets. Being able to do a quick renovation will be less expensive and allow us more time to budget for a bigger one. Second, time. As ya’ll know, Carter is in his third year of law school and I work full time. We do bigger projects on his breaks and it’s looking like we won’t have time until he is finished with school this May. And lastly, this allows me to really think about our bigger renovations and make final decisions with plenty of time. Phase one of our bathroom will be inexpensive and can be done in just a day or two.
Bathroom Design Board Inspiration
I put together this design board as inspiration. A lot of items on this board I won’t actually buy, but try to DIY or find similar items thrifting. I sent this to a friend and her response was exactly what I was hoping for. She said it was “so soothing.” Since the space is small I am going to try and keep things light and airy. I am glad we have a window in this space, we do get natural light in here. I talk all about how to make easy design boards on my blog HERE.
Bathroom Inspirations
Here are some of my favorite bathrooms I am thinking about when we start on phase two. Although, I will still be thinking about them while making my design plan for phase one.
Sometimes I just don’t have words for how beautiful these spaces are. I think I have pinned this same picture over 15 times. This gorgeous place was designed by Sarah Sherman Samuel. You can find more about here HERE. My favorite thing about this bathroom is the size of the mirror. Mirrors are a great way to make a space feels bigger. I also love how she incorporates gold and black finishings.
The green tile in the bathroom is to die for AMAZING. I love the geometric shapes and the color is so pretty. This green goes so well with the gold fixtures.
I love the warmth this room brings. The colors in the vanity and tile work seamlessly together. Something like this would work well in our small bathroom. This renovation is done by Three Bird Renovations. You can see more of them HERE.
I love the eclectic look of this bathroom. Patterns on patterns are my thing. You add the add arched mirror and then it’s over for me. This is so whimsical and fun.
This neutral bathroom is everything and done perfectly. I love the pop of color the added with the rug. I love what they did here. Using a rug to add color is an easy way to change the entire style of a room. Switch the rug out easily for a new look when you’re ready. This bathroom design was done by Molly Madfis and she nailed it! You can see more of her stuff HERE.
